Blocks & Giving Away Technology

Making Blocks open source ... this is killer. If more applications adopt the Blocks framework, we could potentially have one plugin work many places. Or at least a step in this direction. This is the killer idea. I was just reading a piece by Dave Winer on this exact thing, he referred to it a couple days ago:

Also, as I logged into You Form for the second time, a bad omen, I had to look the name up, I couldn't remember it. I kept thinking "You Found". "You Find". You do something .... :)

Thanks for the link. I think making Blocks open source could work out well if we could convince other developers to use it. But what do people think about giving registered users access to You Form’s application’s source code.

Application code would not be open source, but registered users would have access to it. This would make it much easier to tweak the application, but at some point the source code will probably make it into the wrong hands. Of course it will be illegal for people to distribute it or steal it, but that would be a possibility. But when that happens the result will still be illegal and so I think the impact should be fairly minimal since it would be available from news or popular download sites.

I like the name because it’s short and descriptive… but I also had a similar problem. It’s the best I’ve come up with so far (not my skill) but I’m very open to better ideas.
