Clockwork and Notebook (Forest) Integration

I found HBTimer 1.5.2 listed at MacUpdate and came across your Hog Bay applications. They sound so promising for what I was looking for that I bought them after trying them out. The Company Guide and Blocks Framework sound very promising. I wouldn't call myself a programmer but I would very much like to participate in the development process. At the very least, I can make suggestions, such as the integration of Clockwork and Notebook (Forest).

What I was looking for was a tool that could record my time for current projects, administration tasks, phone calls, etc. for my graphic design business. Clockwork was the first tool I came across that could track multiple tasks at the same time.

What's great about Notebook is the ability to create your own interface. If I wanted to use it as a custom time sheet, I can do this by adding two columns and naming them Start and Stop as fields for entering the times. What would be great is if there was a way to allow tabbing across fields as if you were using this as an Excel spreadsheet. Tab to the next column. Shift Tab to previous column. Return already takes you to a new row (file).

Once you have this functionality, you could also add integration with Clockwork so that clicking on the start button would automatically fill the start field of the active file. Clicking on the stop button would automatically fill the stop field. If three more columns were added: duration, rate and wage which could perform basic calculations in the data in other columns, you could have a very flexible time tracking application.

I also found an application called Work-Timer at MacUpdate, but what I didn't like about it was one thing. I could access the data only by exporting to Excel. Maybe this is the best way to manipulate the data, but I didn't like being forced to if you could just copy paste from the application into something like QuickBooks Pro. Which is ultimately what I want to do: integrate data from a timer into my small business accounting software. If this could happen automatically (or with an AppleScript), all the better.

In this way, I could see the combination of Notebook, Clockwork and Quickbooks as the ultimate small business management tool. Perhaps this is beyond the intentions of Notebook (Forest). But if this kind of integration could be provided, Clockwork and Notebook would become indispensable to me.

Good idea. Just the sort of

Good idea. Just the sort of thing that I want to do with this new version of Hog Bay Software. Unfortunately I’m not quite to really tackle this yet, still need to spend most of my time developing Forest, but I’ve hacked together a script for you and posted it in a new topic. Seems that I can’t attach files to comments, only to topics.
