New Home and New Directions for Mori

Tags ( )

This page will continue to be updated for the time being...

The focus for Mori is to be an indispensable storage and organization tool for your information. To do that, it will just let you do your thing, and then collect and organize it when you want to and how you want.

Mori will not become more complex. It does simple things simply and allows you to extend them as you want. The current release provides simple interfaces to set up and work with your notebooks. Future releases will make it even simpler.

As an information storage utility it should allow you to begin entering data without having to go into a mode or click on a special box. Any entry should work just from the keyboard. Depending on the current selection, you might need to press cmd-m, or navigate through the notes with arrow keys first in order to get to a place where you can enter, but it should be possible to do quickly (2 or 3 keystrokes) and easily.

For organizing your info, it includes outlining, tags, flags, smart folders, etc. These tools will continue to be strengthened and made seamless to the workings of Mori's note management.

Most popular and oldest requests have priority for inclusion in a feature release. The degree to which the request falls into the philosophy, and can be done simply and easily determines how likely it will be included in Mori. The degree to which I'm familiar with the portion of code which would have to be changed carries less weight in the decision.

There is already a planned v2.0, which requires a change in the file format and the way the Blocks components interact. However, I'm not scheduling it for release until the end of the year. So requests which require elements that are part of the format change will either be postponed until then or will force an earlier release of v2.0.

Before iPhone! Well, probably not before iPhone now.

Lists <---> Entries conversions
WebKit

Excellent list of priorities

Font customization for Source & Entries - check.
Renaming of Labels - check.
Customizable Column Views - check.
Tabs - Check.
Lists Entries conversion - Check, and double check!

These have all been sources of frustration, particularly since some of them were already available under the old Hog Bay Notebook, then taken away with the conversion to Mori.

Calendar?

Any plans for an integrated calendar?

RE: Calendar

An ability to display data in a calendar format would be great, but also outside the core functionality of Mori's notebook/organizer category. That begins to take it into the realm of PIM...or something.

If such a capability were to be available within Mori, it would likely be through means of a Blocks-based add-on. Such add-ons are already possible (such as mGTD), but better support for them is forthcoming.

Oldest and most popular

Hello,

It's great to hear that things are going to happen with Mori in the near future! I'm wondering if perhaps, maybe, some day, Mori will support drag and drop import and/or export? I'm hoping that's an old or popular request. Maybe its neither...

Thanks!
Oscar

RE: Oldest and most popular

Drag and drop import and/or export of what?

Alfonso

Well...anything. I suppose

Well...anything. I suppose I'm mostly talking about the export function really. Dragging an entry from the entries pane does nothing. Which feels kind of strange for an app as cool as Mori.

Oscar

There is *some* DragNDrop capability in v1.6

Now I understand what you had in mind, and you're correct: dragging from the entry pane to another is unresponsive. And that's baffling since you can drop *into* the entry pane. (The same is true for the source pane.)

Mori allows DND in both directions from the notes pane, however. But I believe it's in our best interest to make DND symmetrical for the various panes and entry types which Mori handles so this will receive a fix, but I can't promise it for v1.7.

What you used to be able to

What you used to be able to do in Hog Bay Notebook -- and what I hope is what you mean by "ListsEntries conversions" -- is drag a bunch of items from the Lists to the Entries pane to make an outline, and drag an outline from the Entries pane into the Lists to form a bunch of separate items. This was an invaluable feature that I dearly want back.

Bug Fixes Now Coming Sooner in v1.6.3

See New Bug Treatment Policy in Effect for more info.

Bug fixes are too important to wait for later.
