Opening spotlight result only works once

Project:Mori
Version:1.6.11
Component:Code
Category:bug
Priority:normal
Assigned:Alfonso Guerra
Status:active

Description

More than half the time I use Spotlight, opening a hit in Mori (ie jumping to the item) will only work once. I have to do a new search to look at another result. Restarting Mori doesn't help, so the problem may lie with Spotlight, but I have no other application behaving like that.

Version:1.6.3» 1.6.9

This still occurs after installing Tiger from scratch, updating Mori, and Check & Repair Notebook.

Use Spotlight from the menubar to search for a string that occurs several times in the same Mori file. Select two hits from the menu: only the first time Mori will jump to the entry.

I'm not experiencing this in Leopard with 1.6.10. Will give it a shot in Tiger.

Version:1.6.9» 1.6.11

The behaviour was consistently what I described with 1.6.9 on latest Tiger/Intel. Yesterday I updated to 1.6.11 and now opening a result from the Spotlight menu *never* jumps to the relevant entry anymore. The only thing that happens is Mori comes to the foreground.

Do the entries update properly on your system? Will Spotlight locate newly entered entries?

I am unable to replicate the problem, and suspect there is another application or utility which is interfering either with Spotlight's request to open the document, or with Mori's attempts to get the document.

If you would please run 'Activity Monitor' (most likely in /Applications/Utilities) and print out the list of 'All Processes' (set by the pop-up menu on the top of the Activity Monitor window), and email it to me, I would appreciate it.

In the meantime, I am working on a diagnostic version to tell us what is going on.

Thank you,
Alfonso

Yes and yes

> suspect there is another application or utility which is interfering

(VoodooPad never missed a beat jumping to results)

Unusual processes: AppTrap, FastScripts, Growl, iStat menus, Quicksilver, RetroRun, SteerMouse. The normal one idle mdimport.

Just noticed then when I open a New Viewer Window jumping starts working as expected, inside that window. Could my main window be somehow corrupted?

I suppose it's possible, but if you're able to view the entry from the window it shouldn't be the problem. Please close the notebook and make a copy of it. Reopen it and the new viewer window (or open a new one if you already closed the other new one), and adjust the layout to be how you like. That should allow you to work normally again. Incidentally, do they both have identical toolbars? (Mori has defaults for two distinct toolbars: one for notebook viewer windows, and another for note windows.)

If it's possible, please send me a copy of the defective notebook to see if there's something amiss with its layout records. If you're reluctant to divulge it's contents, you could try deleting entries in other folders. I'm wary that it might correct the cause of this strangeness, but as you've been working in this notebook for some time with this phenomenon it's likely it will remain.

This restored 1.6.9 behaviour: one jump per launch.

Incidentally, do they both have identical toolbars?

No, the new window was created with a default, not my main settings. If I do it again now they are brought over, so there was indeed a problem.

btw every launch I still get: WARN -[BKPluginRegistry validatePluginConnections] - no extension point found for plugin id: com.apokalypsesoftware.mori.MIUserInterface loadSequence: 2147483647's extension

I made a copy and deleted most entries: problem gone. Guess I have to start over censoring more selectively until this happens again.

Gah, copying from Mail removed the quote characters and comments can't be edited

Yes, the warning in the console logs are only a result of a change I made in the plugin loading process. It doesn't adversely affect the plugins and is generated on everyone's systems. I'm working to remedy it for the next release.

Yes, Drupal is a tad inconsistent in module behavior. I'm working on revisions to the CMS as well.

BTW, please hold onto that copy as I'd like you to run an improved 'Check and Repair Notebook' when I've added checks for issues like these.

(I can see why as an administrator I wouldn't want users or developers to edit these reports, but sometimes…)
