How do I link entries in Mori to other applications?

Tags ( )

Hi, I've been using Mori for a little bit and liking most of it. But, I had one question that would make me an even happier use of Mori.

I am trying to link entries in Mori to other applications. For instance, other GTD apps or other note taking & writing applications. But, when I try to drag and drop Mori entries to create a link to those entries, I can do it. Some note-taking applications like Journal seems to let you do just that. I like everything else about Mori, except that feature.

Is this a problem that can be addressed easily or is there some underlying database structure that doesn't let you do that?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Importing woks, and also dragging inside note area

What do you mean by linking? Right clicking in the note area gives you the option to link to a file. Through the file menu you can attach a file to a note. I can also import a file, either via the file menu or by drag and drop to the note area.

what I mean by linking

Thanks for responding... I wasn't sure if I were going to get any responses, because the user forum seemed a bit inactive. So, thanks!

So, I guess I was unclear in my original post. What I mean by linking is this: say, I want to remind myself that I need to keep working on some research notes (an entry in Mori). In my GTD application or other writing software (like scrivener or pages), I want to create a link in that application to my research notes in Mori. If I can make that link, then I can just click on that link in the external application and get that Mori note show up.

I realize that this may not a super-timesaver, but it's kind of neat to be able to do something like that for research. That's all.

I thought I could do this simply by dragging and dropping the Mori entry icons to the destination application files, because I can do that to Mori notes. When I try to do this, the icon just refuses to get attached and goes back to where it came from (I can't quite say this right, but basically, the linking doesn't happen when I try to attach Mori entries to notes in other applications).

Is there a reason why I can't do this, or is there way around it?

The other way around ...

Thanks for explaining. I have no idea how to link back from any document in any app to a specific entry in Mori. But I can see how this would help. At this point I can do no more than second your question. I would love to have this option!!
Perhaps there is a plug-in for Mori that can do this. Check on the plug-in page. I will do so too ...

Sorry I cannot be more helpful :(

Linking TO Mori entries

Notebooks are searchable with Spotlight. To make this possible Mori stores a small document at ~/Caches/Metadata/Mori for each entry. There's a prefs setting that controls this.

When you doubleclick such a file, the notebook opens with that entry selected. I suspect you can link to those files from other applications to get what you want.
Problem is to identify the file you need: they are numbered, not named. On the up, the number is also used internally by Mori; it's the AppleScript property "id" of the entry.

This may be doable if the target application is scriptable. Otherwise it's not worth the manual labour, I think.
If you must_have_this you can always try GUI scripting.
