5 second "autosave" makes mori unusable with large notebooks

Tags ( )

I have been using Mori daily with a large notebook containing close to 10,000 rich text entries. I am generally happy with the software except for 1 very serious problem:

The previous developer added a custom setting to allow the autosave interval to be lengthened for those of us with large notebooks, since waiting for the saving process to complete becomes more and more onerous as the notebook size grows . At some point in subsequent development under Apokalypse, this setting appears to no longer have any effect - if I change it in the prefs, it just goes back to the original default 5 second value and there is no apparent change in Mori's behavior Restarting the software also has no effect. I can find no related plist key to modify directly in the prefs file living in my home library.

This behavior causes me to experience long (> 5-6 seconds) beachball cursor delays almost continuously (essentially, every 5 seconds that I use the program in a way that modifys data: typing, reorganizing, etc). It is *hugely* annoying and makes the software almost unusable!

is there a way to restore this preference setting???

Brian

Brian - something similar

Brian - something similar happened to me when I was trying to change the Service Menu Folder Name, so I'm going to throw something out there for you to try: After you type in your new Autosave period, try hitting the Return key before moving on. Hopefully that will do the trick for you.

Same problem here, but your

Same problem here, but your trick doesn't work. Maybe it's a "dead preference", in the plist I can't find anything related to this...

Sorry it didn't work. Works

Sorry it didn't work. Works for me using 1.6.10 on Leopard - if I don't hit return after changing the value, the new preference isn't saved.

Best of luck with it.

thanks for the quick replies

thanks for the quick replies folks! Unfortunately it doesn't work for me either. If I hit return the setting is saved if I immediately reopen the prefs window to check. However: no change in behavior occurs and the pref is not saved upon quitting and restarting Mori.

So I am still looking for a solution. I may try trashing my prefs file and letting Mori regenerate it to see if that helps...

I've Now Been Able to Replicate This Bug

I'm working on the fix to incorporate it into the 1.6.11 update.

Alfonso

thanks, Alfonso! It's good

thanks, Alfonso! It's good to know that this is either simple enough or important enough to be addressed in the next update. It will make a huge difference for me to restore this setting.

Brian

How is it working now?

Does Mori now respect the auto-save setting?

I'd like to mark this bug as fixed.

Thank you.

Alfonso

Alfonso, I'll download

Alfonso,

I'll download version 11 and test it today.

Brian

Everything appears to work

Everything appears to work as expected now. I set it for 60 seconds. Also, the setting was preserved across a program relaunch.

Thank you for fixing this - it makes a huge difference in Mori's usability for me!!

Brian

Another bug bites the dust!

Brian,

I'm glad to hear you've found the bug removed from 1.6.11! The bugs are getting squashed in the public releases. Hopefully most users are now onboard with the latest release.
