Entries Sort Order in Smart and Tag Folders

Tags ( )

I am exploring Mori to use (among other possible uses) to detail and orgnaize my Swing Dance Lesson Plans.

I've manually ordered and reordered the various exercises and such that we might do and I've created a Tag Folder of entries not done yet (in the current session of classes) and a Smart Folder of just "Moves" (as oppoed to "exercises" or whatever)

The problem is that neither folder seems to be displaying my entries in the same order that I have them in the main Sources window.
Is there a trick or something I'm doing wrong?
Of course the order is critical if these alternate views are to be helpful.

Thanks,

To set sort order

In the sheet where you set conditions for smart/tag folder there's a checkbox "Sort by...", with two popup menus to choose the sort order.

Did you make use of this?

I believe there's no way to set sort order in the Sources list in this manner. Only dragging will work there.
And, I'm quite sure a manual sorting cannot be replicated in a smart/tag folder. They are not really folders; they only collect entries according to the conditions you have set.

From your description I gather you want to mark exercises & such "to be done", and you used a tag to do the marking. If that is correct you could use the "checkbox" column for that purpose.
At the top right of the entries panel is a widget marked "»". It gives you a popup menu of available columns - you can also create your own if needed.

To set sort order

Good question and I had not set sort order with those pop-ups but, as you suspected, they don't seem to help me duplicate the order that I created in the Sources view.
I suppose the only way I can do it is to create a separate Sort Order column and take on the cumbersome process (compared to just dragging) of making entries to maintain my desired sort order.
Thanks for the helpful feedback.

Numbers

Or you just prefix entry titles with a number, and set the smart folder to sort by title.

Are you trying to get a view for a class/course that shows only those items that are still to come, and in order? That would mean duplicating that set of entries elsewhere, somehow. Will be hard to do with tag/smart folders.
I think it is doable with an applescript, using the 'due date' column, and aliased entries.
I'd be happy to assist.

{An entirely different approach would be to allow entries to be hidden. Hmm. Developer stuff.}
