some Mori licensing confusions, and what not to do

Dear All,

Following is a slightly-clipped version of a letter to Jesse Grosjean, who not only helped me out of the dilemma it poses, but kindly suggested I post it to this forum as a guide to the similarly perplexed. Duly noted and executed ...

Dear Mr. Grosjean,

Even though it seems ungrateful to complain about a free update, in this case I shall indeed complain. I have to say that though I have been a MAC user for five years now, on systems from Jaguar to Tiger, getting the license for Mori to install -- even following your instructions -- has left me confused and flummoxed.

When I attempted to download the license attachment to the above letter from you, I got only a window with a HTML text. Being an experienced and canny MAC veteran, I then tried option-click. Aha! I got a textfile on my desktop. But when I dragged that onto the Mori icon, I merely got a message stating that Mori cannot deal with material in the form of NPPasteboard yada, yada, yada.

My next attempt involved going to the user's guide on line, where I read:

==To install this license double-click it or drag and drop it onto Mori’s icon. Mori will then display a dialogue letting you know that the license is installed. Once your software is licensed you will see your name in Mori’s About box.==

Well, fine, Number Two didn't work so I tried Number One. However (surprise!), double-clicking only got me the .txt document opened in my text editor. No bells and whistles, nothing from Mori except a nag window. Its "About box" still listed the application as unlicensed. [.....]

Incidentally, I have to add that this is only the latest stage in the grand chase through your web sites that started with your fairly complex instructions for obtaining the upgrade license in the first place. Things simply do not go the way you lay them out to the user. For instance, there is no "Add to Cart" button to be found for Mori. There is a big red "Buy for $27.98" button, and that turned out to be the key, but that isn't the same as "Add to Cart", is it?

Also, once I got to PayPal (feeling like a participant in an Easter Egg hunt), I was supposed to go back and send you an email. I have to say it wasn't easy to find the place to click for "Send Email" (whatever its eventual label was, it wasn't that).

I have to add that your website is quite confusing for the average idiot to traverse. Now, I'm not an idiot (though feeling like one at the moment), but some people out there are close to it when on a computer, and they're going to have lots of trouble navigating the Easter Egg hunt, I can just feel it. This by way of helpful advice ... I hope you take it as such. [...]

Best regards,

[[Happy PS: Mr. Grosjean later advised me to make sure the license I downloaded had the extension ".morilicense" in place of ".txt". I did so, and hey presto! the blank square became a green Mori icon. I double-clicked this, and Bob was my uncle. I was in business, my copy of Mori now all mine. Kudos to Mr. Grosjean for his gentle handling of the deeply confused.]]

There are many little

There are many little problems that must be ironed out here, but one big problem. For some reason his license file was emailed with a .txt file extension instead of a .morilicense.

Does anyone know what might cause this?

I know the same thing has happened to at least one other user, I'm fairly certain that the attachments are all being sent out with the correct extension.

Jesse

"Invalid file"

My file got sent with the correct extension, but the file itself refuses to cooperate with Mori. I tried downloading it via both my Gmail account, and then Apple Mail when that didn't work. With Mail, I got a file with a pretty icon, with Gmail, I didn't. However, neither works. I double-click (or drag the file) and I get a box saying that the license file is "invalid." It looks fine to me, a basic XML file that validates in TextMate; no weird errors in it. Do I perhaps need to be running an older version of Mori for this to work? I am running beta 56 (On a whim I downloaded Mori 1.0 and it did not work there either, so perhaps that is not the issue).

The order system still seem

The order system still seem to have trouble when a person's name isn't made up of plain ASCII characters. I've just slightly edited your name on the transaction and resent the license keys. I tested the new issued license and it seems to work OK.
